Karissa is a 2009 MAAP Graduate and the Executive Director at CTWO. Prior, Karissa was the National Training Director and managed all of CTWO’s overall programs, and was the Director of the Movement Activist Apprenticeship Program (MAAP) and Community Action Trainings (CAT). She has organized around issues ranging from gentrification to environmental racism, gang injunctions, and police brutality. Karissa believes that the movement for social justice has to be led by the people most affected, by building leadership in communities of color. She is very excited to be part of the CTWO staff to engage in this process. When not busy with work, Karissa spends a lot of her time on her urban farm in East Oakland with her amazing daughter and husband. She is an active member of the bay area #blacklivesmatter chapter. She loves to laugh, debate people, strategize, and plan direct actions.
